About Us

I grew up in Granada, southern Spain, after moving there from the UK at the age of 14. Everyone around me had a strong Andaluz accent, where people often don’t pronounce the ends of words (which definitely keeps you on your toes 😅).

Spanish was just part of normal life. I heard it in the street, spoke it with friends and used it without really thinking about it. Later, when I wasn’t surrounded by Spanish every day, keeping it up became much harder.

That’s why we made Spanish.Chat. Maya lives inside WhatsApp, so practising doesn’t feel like sitting down to study. You can message her about what you had for lunch, something annoying that happened at work, or whatever is actually on your mind.

My favourite feature is the voice notes 🎙️ You can send them back and forth like a normal conversation, replay Maya’s replies as many times as you want, and read the transcript if you miss something (very useful with those quicker bits).

You can mix in English when you get stuck, make mistakes without feeling awkward and get corrections as you go.

Hopefully it makes speaking Spanish feel a little less like homework and a lot more like chatting with a friend.
